Classes are designed for
children with developmental disabilities, but are open to all children who
like art! The classes are offered under the direction of an
Occupational Therapist/K-12 Art Teacher. Children must have a developmental
level of at least 7 years old. Children must be able to function in a
small classroom setting, with individualized 1-2 (adult to student)
ratio. The classes are held on the first Saturday of each month in New
Bern and the second Saturday of the month in Bayboro |

On occasion, we like to show
off the kids’ fabulous art to the public! We have displayed it at the
New Bern Public Library, given it to doctor’s offices, and entered pieces in
the Oriental Woman’s Club Artfest. |

Concepts
Utilized Include
·Heavy work – hammering, woodworking, clay wedging, resistive
material manipulation
·Tactile Desensitization – working with lentils, bark, sawdust,
plaster, Papier-mâché, clay, natural materials, etc.
·Multimedia construction – art creations utilizing a wide variety of
materials
